- The Foo Fighters Are Coming! The Foo Fighters Are Coming!
Ladies and gents, the new Foo Fighters album, Wasting Light, is just a few weeks away from being released. (The record "drops" on April 12. (Prior to the drop, the Foos will appear on SNL on April 9.) In the current Rolling Stone, Dave Grohl says of the album, "It's bitchin'." Who's going to argue with that?) Recently, the band premiered the documentary Back and Forth at SXSW. This flick chronicles the band's "life," from when Dave started it all on a demo right up through recording Wasting Light in Dave's garage. The doc will be screened in several movie theatres throughout North America on April 5th, (sadly, the New York gig sold out before I could get tickets) and following the screening will be a live performance (via the celluloid) from the Foos themselves! I'm so excited for the record and really looking forward to (eventually) seeing the movie. Visit foofightersfilm.com for more details and watch the trailer now:
- The Book of Mormon
The wonderfully acerbic new original musical from Bobby Lopez and Trey Parker & Matt Stone, The Book of Mormon, opened on Thursday. (I saw it in previews and thought it was fantastic! Ben Brantley saw it during press previews and also thought it was fantastic!) Check out Broadwayworld.com's opening night coverage, including opening night arrivals (Aaron Sorkin was there!); curtain call; and the opening night party. Plus, check in with creators Parker and Stone, who spoke to Broadway.com about researching and writing the show; "Elder Price," Andrew Rannells, who also spoke to Broadway.com; and "Elder Cunningham," Josh Gad, who filled out Playbill.com's Cue&A. And for even more Mormon fun, check out Parker and Stone on Fallon, parts one, two and three, and Josh Gad getting the Side by Side by Susan Blackwell treatment. Very funny! - This Year in Jerusalem
Jerusalem is almost here. The actors, including virtuoso Mark Rylance, have been in London rehearsing for the last few weeks and next Saturday, April 2, the show begins previews in New York at the Music Box Theatre. (The show will official open on April 21.) Broadwayworld.com has been introducing readers to the cast members, and this week they said hello to my favorite theatre guy, John Gallagher, Jr. Keep checking the Broadwayworld.com site to meet all the actors in Jerusalem and visit jerusalembroadway.com for more details and to purchase tickets to this limited run play. - Anything Goes
In case you were wondering, this is why you have to see Anything Goes:
- Coming Soon to DC Studio Theatre
Hey, DC readers! Studio Theatre has a great season lined up for you. From January 4-February 12, 2012, the theatre will be running Donald Margulies's Time Stands Still. While it won't boast the fantastic cast who brought the story to life on Broadway, this new, Tony-nominated play from Margulies is still 100% worth a viewing. Later in the season, May 23-July 1, 2012, you'll get to see Bachelorette, a scathing look at three bridesmaids run amok. (It's deeper than that description lets on.) And closing out the season, July 11-August 5, 2012, will be President Sexypants in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. To learn more about the theatre, the season and to purchase tickets, visit studiotheatre.org. - Dig This
