• Summertime in New York!
  
  Even though it's felt like summer for several weeks, this week the season officially arrived. Along with the summer came the Shakespeare in the Park gala. (Measure for Measure and All's Well that Ends Well are being presented in rep this summer.) On Monday, stars came out for the gala, and both Theater Mania and Broadwayworld.com have photo coverage. (Look for Josh Charles, Will Swenson & Audra McDonlad (both are Shakespeare in the Park alumni) and Public Theater founder Joseph Papp's widow, Gail Papp.
  
  And a little summer treat from the S.S. Anything Goes:
  

• Anything Goes in the Recording Studio
  Speaking of Anything Goes, the cast of the Tony-winning revival went into the recording studio this week to record the cast album. Broadwayworld.com has photos of the recording session and Broadway.com has a behind-the-scenes video of the session. There is still no official release date for the cast recording, but my guess is it will probably be available in about two months. Visit sh-k-boom.com to stay up to date.

• Farragut North Update
  It was announced this week that George Clooney's film adaptation of the Beau Willimon play Farragut North, which, on film, will be called The Ides of March, will open the Venice Film Festival on August 31. You may remember that as a play at the Atlantic, Farragut North starred John Gallagher, Jr., and Chris Noth. (Both were very good, with Johnny capturing the hunger of a young political operative.) The film stars the talented Ryan Gosling, Clooney and Marisa Tomei. The film is set for release on the best day of the year, October 7!

• Broadway Closings
  Last week, I was able to bring you news of several shows slated to open on Broadway in this new 2011-2012 season. This week, I bring you the onslaught of post-Tony Broadway closings. Born Yesterday and The House of Blue Leaves will both end their limited engagement runs earlier than expected, with Born Yesterday closing on June 26 and Leaves closing on June 25. A closing notice was also posted to the theatre-hopping Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway, which is exactly what its title says it is. That show will close on September 4. (Both Arcadia and The People in the Picture ended their limited engagement runs as scheduled this past Sunday.)
  
  
• Broadway Openings
  It wasn't all closing notices this week. We learned this week that Prince of Broadway will hit the New York boards in fall 2012. The show is said to be a revue of material from Hal Prince musicals, and will be co-directed by Prince and Susan Stroman. Additionally, Relatively Speaking, the bill of three one-acts, will play the Brooks Atkinson theatre, begin previews on September 20 and officially open on October 20. Visit Playbill.com for casting. • TV Awards
  The Critics Choice TV Awards were handed out on Monday. Among the winners were Modern Family, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife and recent Tony host Neil Patrick Harris for How I Met Your Mother. Visit Playbill.com for the full list of winners.
