Now. Here. This. The latest collaboration from the [title of show] team is back at the Vineyard Theatre. (Readers may remember that it had a week-long lab run at the Vineyard this summer. I LOVED it.) This full production opened on Thursday (see photos here and here), but earlier in the week, the Vineyard announced that the poignant and wonderfully expressive show would play an extra week! Visit Playbill for more details about the extension; head over to Broadway.com for interviews with the creators; and then run to the Vineyard box office to purchase tickets. (I'm seeing it this weekend - I'll bring you a full report on this iteration next week!)
Sutton is Sassy! You remember that Sutton Foster departed Anything Goes to go film the series Bunheads, right? Well this week, we got our first look at the series. Watch the preview below, in which the unparalleled Ms. Foster schools the girls, "Attitude, my friends!"
Hello! The Book of Mormon on Tour Can't snag a ticket to The Book of Mormon on Broadway? No problem - the tour (beginning this fall in Denver) will be coming your way (sooner or later) and Tony nominee Gavin Creel will be starring! That's right, the Hair alumnus and Broadway Impact co-founder will headline The Book of Mormon's first national tour, taking on the role of Elder Price, currently played on Broadway by Tony nominee Andrew Rannells. Playbill has details, and you can visit the show's website for tour information.
Theatre Award Update
The Tony Awards administration committee met again to discuss the eligibility of various productions. The most interesting rulings are: both Porgy and Bess and Wit will be considered in their respective revival categories, and the heavily revised book for Porgy and Bess will not be eligible for a Best Book of a Musical nomination. Visit Playbill for a full report of the meeting.
The nominations for the Lucille Lortel Awards were announced this week. Nominees include The Big Meal, Milk Like Sugar, The School for Lies and The Cherry Orchard, as well as actors, directors and designers from those and other shows. Visit Playbill for the full list of nominees. (The Lortel Awards honor off-Broadway excellence; winners will be announced at a May 6 presentation.)
