An American in Paris Casting

Full casting has been announced for the Broadway-bound production of An American in Paris, Christopher Wheeldon's full stage adaptation of the beloved Gershwin movie musical. Perennial gypsy and extraordinary dancer Charlie Sutton (Kinky Boots) is among those who will join Robert Fairchild (A Place for Us) and Leanne Cope in the musical, which will premiere in Paris this winter. Wheeldon (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, A Place for Us) will then bring the show to Broadway's Palace Theatre. Broadway previews begin March 13, 2015, with opening night set for April 12. Speaking of casting news, the nominees for the Casting Society of America's Artios Awards have been announced (in some categories; nominees for feature films will be announced later this year). Among those nominated are casting directors responsible for Act One; Masters of Sex; Beautiful; Veep; Hedwig and the Angry Inch; Modern Family; Les Miserables; Breaking Bad; Violet; Game of Thrones; Casa Valentina; The Good Wife; All the Way; House of Cards; Stage Kiss; The Normal HeartDinner with Friends; Choir Boy; Tales from Red Vienna; Here Lies Love; and the Guys and Dolls concert.   • Additional casting has been announced for the film, Trumbo, about the blacklisted screenwriter. Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, All the Way) takes on the title role; he is joined by Michael Stuhlbarg (Hugo), Helen Mirren and John Goodman (Inside Llewyn Davis), among others.   • Lucie Arnaz (whom I met in London when she performed in The Witches of Eastwick) will appear in Pippin October 9-November 9; she'll be playing the role of Berthe. Broadway.com has more.

  • Taylor Louderman (Bring It On) will star in the upcoming December 4 live broadcast of Peter Pan. Louderman will play Wendy opposite Allison Williams's Pan. In addition, Alanna Saunders will take on the role of Tiger Lily. The NBC event will also feature the previously announced Christopher Walken (A Behanding in Spokane) as Captain Hook; Tony winner Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher) as Mr. Darling and Smee; and Kelli O'Hara (The Bridges of Madison County) as Mrs. Darling.   • Additional casting has been announced for the New York Philharmonic concert of Showboat. Joining the previously announce Vanessa Williams are Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess), Ali Mauzey (Crybaby) and Christopher Fitzgerald (Finian's Rainbow), among others. The concerts will take place November 5-8, and will be filmed for a Live from Lincoln Center broadcast (airing on PBS on a date to be announced). Broadwayworld.com has more.
New Shows Coming to Broadway

The stage adaptation of Hilary Mantel's novels Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies will play Broadway this season, transferring from London. The two-play set will run in repertoire at the Winter Garden Theatre, with previews beginning March 20, 2015, and opening night set for April 9. The plays, collectively known as Wolf Hall: Parts 1 and 2, come from the Royal Shakespeare Company, and tell of the life of Thomas Cromwell. Broadway.com has more. In addition, the musical adaptation of Doctor Zhivago is coming to town. Reporting on an Equity casting notice, Broadway.com says the show will play at the Broadway Theatre. Rehearsals will begin in February 2015, with opening night some time in April. And there are rumors that King Charles III, a hit in London, is coming to Broadway in spring 2015.
