Casting News
  • Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot, Marie and Rosetta) is joining the Broadway company of Significant Other. The Joshua Harmon play, which ran off-Broadway in summer 2015, begins previews at the Booth Theatre February 14, 2017. Opening night is set for March 2, and tickets go on sale October 17. Jones joins Gideon Glick, Lindsay Mendez, Barbara Barrie, John Behlmann, Sas Goldberg, and Luke Smith, all of whom are reprising their off-Broadway roles. Theater Mania has more.

  • Tony nominee Alex Brightman will play his final performance in School of Rock on November 6. Waiting in the wings is Eric Petersen, who'll take on the role of Dewey Finn beginning November 7. Broadway.com has more.

  • Three-time Tony Award winner and Academy Award winner Mark Rylance (Twelfth Night, Bridge of Spies) will lead a big screen adaptation of the J.M. Coetzee novel, Waiting for the Barbarians. Deadline has details.

  • Waitress will welcome Caitlin Houlahan, who'll take on the role of Dawn beginning October 20. Playbill has more.

  • Tony nominee Christopher Jackson will play his final performance as George Washington in Hamilton on November 13. Nicholas Christopher (Lazarus, Whorl Inside a Loop), who covered the role on and off throughout the summer, step into The General's shoes beginning November 15. Broadway.com has more. After spending this fall and winter in Hamilton, Nicholas Christopher will join the cast of this spring's revival of Miss Saigon. Previews at the Broadway Theatre begin March 1, 2017, with opening night set for March 23. Playbill has more.

  • Original Rent boy Adam Pascal will join the company of Something Rotten beginning November 7. He'll play the Bard himself, William Shakespeare. Something Rotten's Broadway run will conclude January 1, 2017. Playbill has more.
Everything Else
  • The Tony Awards Administration Committee met for the first time this season, and confirmed the eligibility (without any special rulings) of Paramour and Cats. The committee also announced that the Hudson Theatre, which is being refurbished and will be once again be a legit Broadway theatre, is a Tony-eligible theatre, including productions that run there during this season. That means the revival of Lanford Wilson's Burn This, which is set to start this spring and star Jake Gyllenhaal, will be eligible for the 2017 Tonys. Playbill has more.

  • Playwrights Robert O'Hara (Bootycandy, Barbecue) and Penelope Skinner (The Village Bike) have each won the Berwin Lee Playwrights Award, which comes with a $30,000 prize. Theater Mania has more.

  • War Paint, the new musical about dueling make-up magnates, will bow on Broadway this spring. Following a sold-out run in Chicago, the musical, written by Scott Frankel (music), Michael Korie (lyrics), and Doug Wright (book), and directed by Michael Greif (Dear Evan Hansen), will begin previews at the Nederlander Theatre March 7, 2017, with opening night set for April 6. Tony Award winners Patti LuPone (An Evening with...) and Christine Ebersole will reprise their leading lady roles. Playbill has more.
